This project is a result of a group of citizens getting together to pay homage to the Hon. Rafael Cordero Santiago, former mayor of the city of Ponce who unexpectedly died during his office term. The mausoleum is located in the central axis of the Panteón Nacional in line with the tombs of Román Baldorioty de Castro and the governor Roberto Sánchez Vilella. The mausoleum was designed with open spaces with black granite slabs. The space conjures up solemnity and invites the visitor to reflect. The black granite slabs were selected, bacause it represented the integrity and firmness that characterized Churumba, as he was known.
